Sophie Wenger

  • Sophie Wenger ist Projektleiterin Klimapolitik beim BAFU und arbeitet seit vier Jahren an förderlichen Rahmenbedingungen für CO2-Entnahme und Speicherung. Ihr Fokus liegt auf der Entwicklung des Rechtsrahmens und Kooperationen mit nationalen und internationalen Stakeholdern. In dieser Funktion hat sie auch die fachliche Leitung der neuen nationalen Arbeitsgruppe zu CO2-Entnahme und Speicherung («AG CCS/NET») inne. Zuvor verhandelte sie für die Schweiz das Abkommen mit der EU zur Verknüpfung der Emissionshandelssysteme. Vor ihrer Tätigkeit beim BAFU war Sophie Wenger beim ewz, u.a. als Geschäftsleitungsmitglied, in den Bereichen Innovationsmanagement und Erneuerbare Energien tätig. Sie ist promovierte Physikerin (ETH/EPFL).

Prof Niall Mac Dowell FIChemE FRSC

  • Niall is a Professor in Energy Systems Engineering at Imperial College London. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of both the IChemE and the Royal Society of Chemistry. His research is focused on understanding the transition to a low carbon economy and has published more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific papers, technical reports, and books in this context.
  • Niall has more than a decade’s experience as a consultant to the public and private sectors. He has worked with a range of private sector organisations spanning the energy industry and financial sector, and recently completed a two-year secondment to the UK Government Department BEIS (now DESNZ) where he acted as an expert policy advisor on CCUS and GGR.
  • Niall has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of TotalEnergies, the Norwegian CCS Research Centre (NCCS), and Joule. He was a member of the US National Petroleum Council (NPC) CCUS Roadmap Team, as well as the technical working group of the Zero Emissions Platform (ZEP), the Carbon Capture and Storage Association (CCSA), and acts as a science advisor to a number of venture capital, private equity funds, and global banks.
  • A multi award winning scientist, Niall was awarded the Qatar Petroleum medal for his research in 2010 and the IChemE’s Nicklin and Junior Moulton medals for his work on low carbon energy in 2015 and 2021, respectively.

Fabienne Moimaux

  • Fabienne is a Managing Director within the BNPParibas Low Carbon Transition Group focusing on Carbon Capture Usage and Storage.
  • She has over 20 years of experience in structured financing, especially in the commodity space, and across debt and equity products. 
  • She now develops the bank’s franchise in the CCUS sector.
  • Prior to BNP Paribas, she worked for HSBC, McKinsey and Natixis.

Olivier Heurtin

  • President of Dunkerque LNG and Gaz-Opale since October 1st, 2020
  • Olivier Heurtin spent 24 years in the Oil & Gas sector with TotalEnergies, holding diverse international roles. From 2011 to 2019, he managed subsidiaries in Southeast Asia, Iraq, Kurdistan, and Mexico. Since October 2020, he has served as President of Dunkerque LNG, overseeing France's largest LNG terminal, vital for European energy security.

Malte Bornkamm

  • Malte Bornkamm is Head of Division IV E 2 “Industrial Decarbonization Market Framework, International Cooperation” in the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action. Before he held different positions in the Industry and European General Directorates of the Ministry and in the Permanent Representation to the United Nations in New York. Malte Bornkamm is a lawyer by profession and has acquired a Master of Laws (LL.M.) at the University of Cape Town on the Nexus between International Environmental and Trade Law.

Jan Willem Lenders

  • Ausgebildet in Europawissenschaften und Internationalen Beziehungen an den Universitäten Maastricht und Nottingham sowie einem Executive MBA der Rotterdam School of Management und der Universität zu Köln, ist Jan Willem Lenders seit 2010 für und in der Energiewirtschaft aktiv.
  • Dabei vertrat er unter anderem die Interessen der im BDEW vertretenen deutschen Energiewirtschaft in Brüssel. Seit 2015 ist Lenders für die Open Grid Europe (OGE) tätig und hat dort u.a. Regulierungsprojekte umgesetzt sowie das Geschäftsführungsbüro geleitet. Seit 2022 ist er im Bereich Geschäftsentwicklung CO2-Transportinfrastruktur aktiv.

Toby Lockwood

  • Before joining CATF, Toby was a senior analyst at the IEA Clean Coal Centre in London, specializing in carbon capture and storage and electricity markets. In this capacity, he authored and managed several in-depth studies on CCS technology and policy, while also leading the organization of a successful series of international conferences and workshops. Alongside this role, Toby cultivated a passion for writing, regularly contributing analytical pieces on CCS and other energy sector issues to industry magazines including Modern Power Systems, Energy World, and the Energy Industry Times.
  • Toby also has experience working on pollutant controls for the lime producer Lhoist in Belgium, and as an associate technical editor for materials science journal MRS Bulletin.
  • Following an undergraduate degree in natural sciences from the University of Cambridge, he obtained master’s degrees in nanomaterials from Imperial College London, and in chemistry from McGill University in Montreal.

Dr. Robin Mutschler

  • Robin is the Group Leader for Macro-Energy Systems at the Urban Energy Systems Laboratory at Empa, Switzerland. He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from ETH Lausanne, where his research focused on catalytic CO2 hydrogenation into synthetic hydrocarbons. He also earned a Master’s degree in mechanical engineering from ETH Zurich, focusing on energy conversion and storage materials, particularly hydrogen storage and quantum dot photovoltaics.
  • Robin's current research lies at the intersection of the Energy-Carbon nexus, particularly emphasizing integrating carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) pathways into energy systems to supply sustainable aviation fuels and platform chemicals.
  • Currently, Robin leads an international research consortium on Geothermal-based Optimized Energy Systems (GOES), aiming to connect various layers of the energy system—from the underground to the city level and beyond—through a novel platform-based approach. He also leads the work package on "Modeling of Robust Transition Paths" for the Swiss energy system in the SWEET reFuel.ch project.

Fabio Wider

  • Ausgebildet in Maschinenbau an der ETH Zürich und mit einem Executive MBA des Imperial College London, verfügt Fabio Wider über umfassende Erfahrung in der Zementherstellung für die Holcim. Er leitete in seiner Karriere alle unterschiedlichen Departemente innerhalb eines Zementwerks; einschliesslich Projekte, Verfahrenstechnik, Produktion, Qualität und Umwelt sowie Instandhaltung. Mit seinen Erfahrungen in verschiedenen Zementwerken, sowohl in der Schweiz als auch in Ägypten, leitet er seit zwei Jahren das Zementwerk in Untervaz.

Heike Worm

  • Als Ökonomin unterstützt Heike Worm seit 2002 Unternehmen, Verbände und Behörden des Energiesektors in regulatorischen und energiepolitischen Fragestellungen. Zu ihren Schwerpunkten bei Polynomics gehören die Beurteilung der ökonomischen Auswirkungen von Marktentwicklungen, Energiepolitik und Regulierungen. Einen zunehmenden Teil ihrer Aufmerksamkeit nehmen die Herausforderungen beim Umbau hin zu einem emissionsfreien Energiesystem ein.
